A Tale of Two Revolutionaries: How The Internet Can Be Useful & Not Distracting

With a world whose horizons know nearly no limits, stretching across thousands of miles on land, connecting the world through the internet and phones threw us into a new era of living. Then smart phones and social media apps came along.

Sadly, like everything else under the system of colonialism, these new tools were used by the colonizers and neocolonial nations to hook people into a new addiction, spread propaganda and spy on billions of people all at the same time.

But as revolutionaries we must adapt and overcome any obstacles the colonizers throw our way and that includes these online streets they got hella control over, not just on-the-ground.

Our Chapter Chief of Nigeria, Chief Ire, is a perfect example of how we can use the colonizer’s violent tools for good, to spread revolution worldwide.

Meeting on Facebook (one of many social media websites/apps that continues spying on users and selling their data for profits), the soon-to-be Chapter Chief of California, Cheem, was going through groups on Facebook to share anti-colonial articles and stumbled upon a comrade from Nigeria that was willing to serve their community and build power for them.

The chats started off with introducing Chief Ire to the organization and letting them know a little of what we’re about as an organization, how we’re not an NGO because NGOs are simply reformist hamster wheel tools to keep revolution away.

At the time, Black Hammer was still hosting Tuesday Rallies but Chief Ire struggled to get into these meetings due to poor data connection but that didn’t stop a revolutionary from teaching the people.

Chief Cheem went on to explain the connection we have, despite being thousands of miles away and from different cultures, as Colonized people; we share the same oppressor who committed acts of genocide and enslaved both of our peoples.

At the time we were also in the process of securing land for our Hammer City project which also fueled Chief Ire’s revolutionary fire to build for their people over in Nigeria.

From then on it’s all history. Cheem and Ire kept in touch with check-ins and good morning videos, boosting each other’s morale as we put in work for our people, learning as we went along the journey of building revolution for our people.

Where Are They Now?

Nearly a year later, Cheem and Ire are still fighting strong to build a world where no one lives at the expense of another.

Chief Ire continues to serve the communities of Nigeria, providing food, KN95 masks and most importantly political education amongst the poor working class Colonized masses who are the true leadership of the revolution.

Chief Cheem in the meanwhile is miles away over in California, empowering the Colonized homeless class people of Skid Row, getting them involved in the work to build revolution and inviting them to take control over their own labor again by offering jobs opportunities.

As the fire from the colony continues to worsen, Hammers are forged in this fire as they become even better in their capacity to serve the people’s growing needs.

This story doesn’t end here though. There are other people like Cheem and Ire waiting to be part of a world where no one lives at the expense of another, willing to put in painstaking work to get there.

The largest empire to ever exist is already ending their story. When theirs ends, yours has to begin. The question is when will you start your story and revolutionary journey?
