Today for Black August we are highlighting revolutionary journalist Mumia Abu-Jamal who is currently still locked up in a colonial cage but even so, he has continued politically educating the masses of Colonized people!
A former member of the Black Panther Party, Mumia joined at just 14 years old building the Philadelphia chapter of the organization.
He went on to become a journalist, working for news stations like NPR as a reporter. But his revolutionary analysis got him fired from the imperialist news outlet.
Being a revolutionary journalist, Mumia was one of the few journalists showing support for the MOVE Organization—a revolutionary organization that sought to live in harmony with the land and animals.
In an interview with the judge that sentenced the MOVE 9—members of the organization that were sent to prison for 30-100 years for the alleged killing of a pig (of which 6 survived)—he questioned the judge on whether or not he knew if any of the MOVE members killed the pig.
Judge Sabo bursted out yelling, “I don’t know who killed the cop but they said they were a family, so I sentenced them as a family.”
It was only 48 hours after this incident that Mumia Abu-Jamal’s life was changed.
Working a taxi driver job in the same area as his younger brother, Mumia saw a pig had pulled over his brother’s cab, ran towards the scene and was shot by the pig in the stomach.
That same pig was shot in the head and the state pinned the death on Mumia in a sham trial.
Having gone through years of torture while in a concentration camp, Mumia’s health took a turn for the worse recently as he was infected with C*VID and has experienced other health complications.
He underwent successful heart bypass surgery and is still alive today.
Mumia Abu-Jamal recognized the sickness of the colony from an early age and led a revolutionary life dedicated to the masses of Colonized people.
For their dedication, Black Hammer salutes Mumia Abu-Jamal and your lifelong struggle!
We continue the fight against white power for our fellow revolutionary and will build in Mumia’s and every Colonized political prisoner’s name!
