Comrades, the global food system is falling apart, and falling FAST. Globally, food prices are rising at the fastest rates in a DECADE. For essential food items, prices have skyrocketed in the past 12 months—like corn by 88%, soybeans by 73%, grains 38% and sugar 34%.
According to the World Bank, a colonial-capitalist institution, this rise can be blamed on China. Do they really think it’s that easy to fool us Colonized people (people of color)? That we don’t realize that the colonial food system has been a failure for the majority of us since DAY ONE!!
This will make food even more inaccessible to poor and working class colonized people, who have suffered malnutrition and hunger since the colony came into being.
But that is not all y’all! I’m sure by now many of you have heard of popular chicken-wing outlet Wingstop creating a new brand called “ThighStop”. They wanna say that it’s because they want to utilize all parts of the chicken. Seriously, how gullible do they think we are???
We know it’s because there is a huge chicken shortage in the united snakkkes due to C*VID and because of the deadly winter storm a few months ago in Texas that killed MILLIONS of chickens.
Similar to the winter storm in Texas, climate change (which again, is caused by colonialism) related extreme weather events have been wreaking havoc on food supplies globally. Earlier this year, France was hit by a devastating frost which impacted 80% of its vineyards. Madagascar has been facing extreme droughts, cyclones, dust storms, and locust attacks.
According to the World Food Programme, worldwide, 1.14 million people are food-insecure and 400,000 people are headed toward starvation. Climate change is fuelling famine and hunger worldwide.
According to the Food and Agriculture Organization, over 34 million people are grappling with emergency levels of acute hunger—meaning they are one step away from starvation—across the world.
I hope those reading this article by now have an understanding that worldwide (yes, even in capitalist haven of the u.$.) grocery stores are already or going to run out of food. Even if they’re stocked, the prices will be out of reach for the vast majority of us. Harvests will fail en masse due to diseases, extreme heat, extreme cold etc.
Food is the basis of our survival. If we do not figure this out, all of humanity is in danger.
So what is the solution? It’s COLONIZED CONTROL over food production. Climate change, malnutrition, food insecurity are all colonial problems. When Colonized people had control over our food, we did not have these contradictions because we were in tune with Mother Earth and natural phenomena and our agricultural practices reflected that!
We did not have a food supply chain based solely on profit but rather its ability to feed our people adequately. I am here to tell you that we can have this—and MORE— once again.
The Food Ministry Committee of Black Hammer is organizing Colonized people WORLDWIDE to grow our own food, to teach people agriculture and to combat hunger in our communities through food distribution programs. We already have gardens in Brazil, Gambia, Utah, TriState and the list is constantly growing.
